This is a 3-hour on-demand/self-study course covering the Mental State Exam (MSE). This course meets the continuing education (CE) requirements for licensed marital and family therapists (LMFTs) and licensed professional counselors (LPCs) as set forth by the Oklahoma State Board of Behavioral Health Licensure (BBHL). After completing this course, you will receive a CE certificate. This course is part of our Clinical Competencies Series. After completing this course, you will be able to (1) Describe the purposes of the MSE; (2) Describe how the MSE can inform diagnosis; (3) Identify MSE findings that require urgent attention; (4) Describe the different elements of the MSE; and (5) Incorporate clinical descriptors (normal and non-normal) to describe and document the MSE. This is an academic-level course that is appropriate for graduate counseling students, candidates for licensure, and new career professionals.
