Heart Rate Variability (HRV) Biofeedback
Heart rate variability (HRV) is an indirect measure of the dynamic interplay between the sympathetic (fight or flight) nervous system (SNS) and parasympathetic (rest and digest) nervous system (PSNS). These two branches of the autonomic nervous system (ANS) work in concert (e.g., homeostasis) so that individuals can flexibly meet the changing demands of daily life. HRV biofeedback describes the use of a noninvasive electrocardiogram (ECG/EKG) sensor or blood volume pulse (BVP) sensor and other sensors (typically a respiration sensor, skin temperature sensor, and galvanic skin response sensor) to supply a real-time visual and auditory representation of ANS activity. HRV biofeedback training helps individuals struggling to navigate Trauma, Anxiety, chronic Pain, Headaches, Inattention, Depression, and Sleep problems decrease symptoms by improving coherence within the ANS via improved vagal tone (10th cranial nerve). The Outdoor Achievement Group, L.L.C. offers a unique blend of HRV Biofeedback, Mindfulness, Visual Imagery, Conversational Hypnosis, and Progressive Muscle Relaxation.
